Water is an amazing and powerful thing created by God. Water can both sustain life and destroy it. It is seen in the Bible as living and flowing when referred to Jesus. It is also referenced several times as being something that sweeps over and is overwhelming when talking about our troubles or the wrath of God.
I’ve been ‘feeling’ a lot of things lately. You’ve heard the phrase, “flood of emotions.” right? That’s me in a nutshell. Well, these days, I start many sentences both out loud and in my heart with the words, “I feel like….” That’s such a dangerous place for me. I’m a feeler and a discerner and many times that gets me in trouble spiritually speaking. It causes me to presume that things are a certain way, and that people think certain things about me. It makes me focus on myself. The enemy loves to use this in my life- to make me forget that it’s not about me at all.
My husband and I took a little road trip today to some waterfalls that are about 2 hours away. My emotions are similar to that waterfall – starting off as little streams, joining together, until they gush out all over the place (not quite as beautifully unfortunately). More importantly though, I thought about the wonderful grace of God and how it is like that waterfall. How even though I had never paid attention to or seen this waterfall until today it was there the whole time. How the grace of God can’t be contained, but worked together and continues to for my good and overflows into and out of my life. How beautiful!
So, I can choose to be engulfed in that flood of emotions, or to be filled up with His spirit and springing forth the Good News.
“Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him.” John 7:38
Pray that today and every day this missionary will choose the better option – the one that relies on God’s never changing power and not her ever changing emotions. You might want to pray the same thing for yourself as well.
